Brazil Climate Overview

Brazil has primarily tropical and subtropical climates. The Amazon basin is hot and humid year-round with heavy rainfall. The northeast is semi-arid, while the south has subtropical conditions with occasional frost. Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo enjoy warm temperatures throughout the year with a distinct wet season.

Seasonal Patterns

The wet season (October–March) brings heavy rains to most of Brazil, with peak rainfall in the Amazon from January through April. The dry season (May–September) sees reduced rainfall but pleasant temperatures. The south experiences the most seasonal variation, with winter temperatures occasionally dropping near freezing.

Weather Considerations

Brazil faces severe flooding and landslides during the wet season, particularly in hillside communities. Drought affects the northeast regularly. The Amazon region experiences increasing deforestation-linked weather changes. The south occasionally receives frost and rare snowfall.
