NOAA Global Forecast System (GFS)
WFY24 uses the Global Forecast System (GFS), a weather forecast model produced by the National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP), which is part of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).
The GFS is one of the most widely used numerical weather prediction (NWP) models in the world. It provides forecasts for atmospheric conditions including temperature, precipitation, wind, humidity, and many other variables. Meteorological services worldwide rely on GFS data for their predictions.
Model Resolution
- Days 1–10: 0.25° grid resolution (~28 km)
- Days 10–16: 0.5° grid resolution (~56 km)
Update Frequency
The GFS model is updated 4 times daily at the following UTC cycles:
- 00:00 UTC
- 06:00 UTC
- 12:00 UTC
- 18:00 UTC
Global Coverage
The GFS provides complete coverage of all land masses and oceans worldwide, from the equator to the poles. This allows WFY24 to deliver weather forecasts for any location on Earth.
Available Weather Data
WFY24 processes the following variables from the GFS model:
- Temperature
- Precipitation
- Humidity
- Wind Speed & Direction
- Atmospheric Pressure
- Cloud Cover
- UV Index
- Sunrise & Sunset
Attribution & Source
All weather data is sourced from NOAA's National Centers for Environmental Prediction. The GFS data is in the public domain and freely available for use.
