Japan observes 16 national holidays throughout the year, many of which reflect deep cultural values such as respect for nature, gratitude for labour, and reverence for the elderly. The most important holiday period is Shogatsu (New Year), celebrated from January 1st to 3rd with family gatherings and shrine visits. Golden Week, spanning late April to early May, combines four holidays into a major travel season that rivals New Year in significance.
