Albania observes 12 public holidays that reflect its unique position as a multi-religious nation where Islam, Orthodox Christianity, Catholicism, and Bektashi traditions coexist harmoniously. Both Catholic and Orthodox Easter are recognized, alongside Nowruz from the Bektashi tradition. Independence Day on November 28th and Liberation Day on November 29th form a consecutive pair honouring the 1912 declaration of independence from the Ottoman Empire and the 1944 liberation from Nazi occupation. Summer Day on March 14th preserves a beloved pagan spring festival.
