The Greek Volcanic Arc

Greece is home to a significant volcanic system known as the Greek Volcanic Arc, located in the South Aegean region. This arc extends from the island of Aegina in the west to the island of Nisyros in the east.

Santorini's Minoan Eruption

One of the most catastrophic volcanic events in recorded history occurred on the island of Santorini around 1600 BC. Known as the Minoan eruption, this cataclysmic event was one of the largest volcanic eruptions of the Holocene epoch.

Other Important Greek Volcanoes

Beyond Santorini, several other volcanic islands dot the Greek landscape: Nisyros, Milos, and Methana, each with unique geological features.
